Period Pet Peeves
The second week of October is Pet Peeve Week (There’s a holiday for everything, these days!), and if there’s ever a time your pet peeves become apparent, it’s before and during your period. It sure can seem that things that are slightly annoying other weeks suddenly become 100 times worse during that time of the month. Then there are those period-specific pet peeves that pop up, throwing a few extra obstacles your way just when you need them the least. We’ve rounded up a few of our period week pet peeve offenders below.
People assuming your bad mood is because of your period – You might not even have your period, but there’s always that one person (often a man) that is ready to blame any and all reactions, disagreements, or unpleasantness on a woman’s period. We’re all entitled to cranky moments, and they don’t always coincide with our period.
A period that surprises you – You’re usually like clockwork and can practically predict the time on your period’s arrival by the hour. And then nature messes with you and gives you the gift that keeps on giving (for at least a few days) when you least expect it and probably don’t want it.
Empty pad or tampon dispensers – If you’re lucky enough to find pad and tampon dispensers in public restrooms these days, you know that they can often be empty, completely taking away from the entire purpose of their existence! Then there are those times when they’re full, and you don’t have any change to access the needed goods. We can’t decide which is worse!
Someone eats your snack stash – Whether it’s a coworker snagging the last bag of salty chips from the vending machine, a roommate polishing off your ice cream, or a partner eating all the cookies (and leaving the empty box behind), it can be brutal to have your go-to period craving food not available when you need it most.
Period accidents – You finally break out the white pants for the season and are feeling confident. Then your period has other ideas and makes a less-than-private appearance. Many of us have been there, especially if you have heavy periods, and know that nature sure can have a mind of its own sometimes.
While your period can definitely bring on a unique set of pet peeves, rest assured that they’re circumstances that don’t stick around forever. And, with a little preparation, you can even avoid some of them for next time!
