DIY Face Mask Recipes
“That time of the month” brings along all sorts of unpleasantness, which often manifests itself in the form of pesky monthly breakouts due to changes in hormones. While we know it’s most important that you feel good, sometimes looking good can go a long way toward that. Minimize breakouts and treat yourself like the goddess you are by getting plenty of sleep, drinking water, and practicing stress-reducing meditation. Natural, do-it-yourself skincare can help your inner glow shine through. Light a candle, turn on some relaxing music, and choose one of the below options.
Slather your face with the sweet stuff. Raw honey has been known for its antibacterial properties throughout history, and by killing bacteria that can make its way into your pores, it can help to stop breakouts. It’s also hydrating, helping to plump up tired, dry skin. Smooth honey on clean skin and let it set for 20 – 30 minutes, then rinse off. If you happen to taste a little, no problem, it’s good for you!
Make breakfast for your face. Even the FDA understands that oatmeal is good for the skin, and while it’s made its way into many products, you can easily get the same benefits by reaching into your cupboard. Mix water and oatmeal into a thick paste and gently rub on skin to exfoliate, leave on for 10 minutes, and then rinse clean. Oats have natural fats that help to moisturize while you remove dead skin and environmental toxins. Add in a teaspoon of honey and mashed banana for an added nourishing bonus!
Make like a salad, and add vinegar. Apple cider vinegar is a wonder ingredient that can help reduce belly bloat when consumed in a glass of warm water. It’s also an astringent which can help reduce excess oil that the period hormone roller coaster can bring. Thoroughly clean skin with vinegar on a cotton ball (just not before a date) and enjoy the tingly fresh feeling as you kick breakouts to the curb.
You might not be able to make periods go away, but by making time to treat yourself and your skin well, you can have a silver lining to that sometimes cloudy week. You might even begin to look forward to some extra special “you time”!
