Celebrate Mother’s Day By Honoring All Your ‘Moms’
Posted byAlicia Trent
Mother’s Day is not just for biological moms. It’s a day to celebrate all the motherly figures in your life whether she’s a grandma, a stepmom, a teacher or an aunt. This year, celebrate Mother’s Day by recognizing all the important women who motivate and inspire you. Unsure how to honor them? Check out these ideas to spark your creativity.
Say ‘I Love You’ with a Card
As Mother’s Day approaches, it’s common to see rows and rows of Mother’s Day cards at the corner store. But it can be difficult to find a card that refers to a special figure other than a mom. No worries! Flex your graphic design muscles and print your own. Even if you’re not that handy with the computer, it’s the thought that counts. The same goes for any stick-figure drawings you do with old-fashioned pen and paper. Decorate the inside with a limerick or a message from the heart.
Another option is to find your favorite photograph of the two of you. On the back, write about that moment in time and how it has shaped your wonderful relationship.
Shower with Flowers
What better way to celebrate Mother’s Day than with a fresh bouquet of flowers. Flowers come in all shapes and sizes just like the many female role models who influence your life. Go for a basket of classic carnations or an elegant vase that showcases a number of colorful blooms. Or take that same flower basket or vase and fill it to the brim with her favorite candy, lotion, cheese and wine.
Go on a Mini-Vacay
If you’re looking for a way to celebrate Mother’s Day that includes more than a tangible present, consider a mini-vacation. This could include taking your grandma or aunt on a weekend excursion or spending the day at your local spa. Parents Magazine suggests going on an “exotic” getaway for Mother’s Day by picking a theme and taking a picnic lunch to your favorite park. For instance, take a “trip to France,” by including baguettes, champagne, brie and pears. Add a French-English dictionary to your tote and practice your French.
Pamper That Perfect Mama
Honor the motherly figures in your life by giving them a day of rest and pampering. The cost is nada and they won’t soon forget putting their feet up while you do the work. Arrive early and let them sleep in while you cook breakfast, watch the kids, tidy the house, or tend to the garden. Suggest they take a long bath, while you tackle the dishes in the sink. It may seem simple, but never underestimate the luxury of a Pamper Day.
