4th of July Party Ideas Your Guests Will Love
Posted byErin Ollila
Summer is here! If you’ve learned anything from past years, it’s that you need to dream up 4th of July Party ideas early. You’ve promised your friends and family a good time, and you want to deliver. It’s time for the invites to go out, but if you have a theme and expect your guests to participate, you need to include that information in the envelope, too!
It doesn’t matter if this is your first year hosting a big summer bash or you’ve been doing this for years. Coming up with 4th of July party ideas can be difficult, especially when you really want to differentiate yourself from the other weekend parties. Here are four party options you and your guests will love.
1. BYO BBQ
You cook the meats, tofu and fish, and they provide the appetizers, drinks, side dishes and desserts. But, here’s the catch — everyone must bring something that is red, white, and blue! If you normally have a potluck summer party, here’s one way to add a little flair and fun to your routine get-together.
2. Dress the Part-y
The Hamptons has a White Party, and wherever you live has a Red, White and Blue party. If you love themed get-togethers but don’t have the time this year to plan all the tiny details, go easy on yourself! Simply ask your guests to attend in red, white or blue attire. Then, pick up decorations and food you want last minute, and enjoy time with your guests. One quick note, though. If you’re unsure whether Aunt Flo will crash the party, you might want to skip the form-fitting dress or shorts and wear something loose and flowy.
3. Fireworks Fun
Are you planning on celebrating with fireworks this year? Great — make it the theme of your entire party. Create confetti “rockets” for the little kids and offer sparklers to the older ones. Serve Roman Candle Rum Punch and Whiskey Whistlers to your adult partygoers. It’s easy to find fireworks decorations, but if you’re feeling extra crafty, you can decorate cupcakes with sugar fireworks on them, too!
4. Independence Costume Party
If you and your friends love super-themed parties, you may be looking for 4th of July party ideas that involve dressing in costume or major preparation. Embrace the freedom of the holiday and make the big theme centered around independence. Let your guests interpret that however they may, but here are some suggestions for you (since, you know, you have to plan the rest of the party yourself!): Beyonce in her music video for “Independent Women,” Will Smith in “Independence Day,” or a classic Yankee Doodle ditty circa 1776.
It doesn’t matter if your get-together is low-key and casual or meticulously planned and executed. However you theme your party, just make sure you take a moment to sit back, relax and enjoy your company. Happy 4th!
