5 Summer Makeup Tips for Radiant Skin
Posted byErin Ollila
It’s summertime, which means you’re spending more time outdoors, and the humidity is wreaking havoc on your hair, skin, mood, everything! Don’t let your summer makeup get runny or splotchy. Check out these five summer makeup tips that will keep your skin looking radiant all season long.
1. Wear Less Makeup
The summer is a time to let your skin breathe. One way to take care of your skin is to skip the layers of primer, foundation and setting product. If you’re going to the beach or a run around the block, do you really need the makeup anyway? By wearing less product on your face, you’re giving it a chance to refresh. However, don’t skimp on cleaning your skin at the end of the day. Just because you’ve gone au naturel all day doesn’t mean your skin hasn’t attracted dirt, grime and oil.
2. When in Doubt, Choose Tint
If you don’t want to slather on foundation, but you do want to pull off a summer makeup look, opt for tinted products. A tinted moisturizer helps even out your skin tone, but won’t feel heavy in the humidity. Similarly, skip the lipstick and wear a tinted lip balm. Bonus points if both have SPF in them.
3. Avoid Raccoon Eyes
If you’re trying to avoid the dreaded look of dark smudges around your eyes, waterproof mascara and eyeliner is a must. Without it, the warm weather may make your skin sticky with sweat and if your favorite eye makeup isn’t waterproof, it will smudge and run.
4. Foolproof Sunless Tanner
Achieving a sun-kissed glow without subjecting your skin to the harsh lights of a tanning bed or the serious rays of the sun is one of the toughest summer skin looks to pull off. Instead of nicely bronzed skin, you end up with orange stripes. To achieve the best psuedo-tan, exfoliate first and then allow your skin to dry well after each application. Also, consider diluting the tanner on any rough patches of skin.
5. Protect Your Face
If you want your skin to continue looking fresh and youthful for years to come, understand that skin care starts with sun protection. The one thing you should apply all day, every day is sunscreen. And, don’t forget to reapply frequently, especially if you’ve been swimming. Also, don’t travel without a wide-brimmed hat. Not only will it help shield your face from the sun, but you’ll make a fashion statement, too.
